Culottes

Culottes are wide-legged, cropped trousers cut so full and short that they look like a skirt. Hitting somewhere between the knee and mid-calf, they combine the freedom of a skirt with the practicality of trousers.

The width and crop are what set culottes apart from regular wide-leg trousers: the leg is so full and the hem so short that, standing still, they read as a skirt. They balance best with a fitted or tucked top to offset the volume.

They're a close cousin of palazzo pants, just cropped short rather than flowing to the floor.
