Sizing & Measurements

Hip measurement

Your hip measurement is the circumference around the fullest part of your hips and seat, with your feet together. It's the deciding number for fitting skirts, dresses, and trousers, since the hip is often the widest point the garment has to clear.

Stand with your feet together and run the tape around the fullest part — usually about 7–9 inches below the natural waist — keeping it level. Feet apart widens the reading and can push you into the wrong size.

For bottoms and fitted dresses, the hip is often the limiting measurement: if it fits the hip, the waist can be taken in, but a too-tight hip can't be fixed.
