Modal

Modal is a type of rayon made from beech-tree pulp, engineered to be softer, smoother, and more durable than standard viscose. It resists shrinking and pilling, holds colour well, and feels silky — common in premium T-shirts, underwear, and loungewear.

Modal is essentially a higher-grade viscose: the fibres are stronger, especially when wet, so it survives washing better and keeps its shape and softness longer. That silky hand and durability are why it shows up in better basics.

It's frequently blended with cotton or elastane to add softness and a smooth drape to everyday knits.
