Slip dress

A slip dress is a thin, lightweight dress cut to resemble lingerie, with narrow spaghetti straps and a bias cut that skims the body. Originally underwear-inspired, it drapes fluidly and layers easily over tees or under jackets.

The bias cut — fabric cut diagonally to the weave — is what lets a slip dress fall in a fluid line that follows the body without clinging like a bodycon. Satin, silk, and viscose give it that signature liquid drape.

It's endlessly layerable: over a fitted tee for day, alone for evening, under a cardigan or blazer in between.
