Business casual

Business casual is a workplace dress code that's professional but not formal — think chinos or tailored trousers with a collared shirt or knit, often a blazer, and no tie. It's a step dressier than smart casual and a step down from a full suit.

The anchor is workplace-appropriate polish: tailored bottoms, a collared shirt or fine knit, leather shoes, and often a blazer, but without the tie and matching suit of formal business wear. Jeans are usually borderline and depend on the office.

Compared with smart casual, business casual skews more conservative and office-ready, with less room for denim and sneakers.
