Necklines & Collars

Cowl neck

A cowl neck is draped, soft folds of extra fabric that gather loosely at the front of the neckline. The added material creates a relaxed, cascading drape, giving knits and dresses a fluid, elegant look that's softer than a structured collar.

The drape comes from cutting the fabric on the bias and adding extra material at the neck, so it falls in soft folds rather than lying flat. It works best in fluid fabrics — fine knits, jersey, satin — that drape rather than hold a shape.

It's a softer, more relaxed neckline than a turtleneck, offering the same higher coverage with none of the snugness.
