Gusset

A gusset is a small triangular or diamond-shaped piece of fabric inserted into a seam to add room and reduce strain. Sewn where a garment takes the most stress — the underarm, crotch, or side hem — it improves range of motion and durability without changing the overall fit elsewhere.

Underarm gussets let shirts and dresses move freely without ripping; crotch gussets do the same for trousers, leggings, and activewear; hem gussets add a little flare or ease at a side slit.

It's a quiet sign of quality construction, especially in well-made shirts and performance clothing where movement matters.
