Jacket vent

A jacket vent is the vertical slit at the back hem of a blazer, suit jacket, or coat that lets the fabric move when you sit or put your hands in your pockets. Jackets come with no vent, a single center vent, or two side vents — the choice affects both fit and how the jacket drapes.

A center vent is classic and versatile; double side vents are considered more elegant and let the jacket fall cleanly over the hips; a ventless back gives the sleekest line but restricts movement and wrinkles when you sit.

Vents are a hallmark of how a jacket is constructed, alongside its lapel and canvas — small details that separate well-made tailoring from cheaper, fused versions.
