Fit & Silhouette

Longline

Longline describes tops, coats, and blazers cut longer than the standard length, extending past the hip or toward the thigh. The extra length creates a lean, elongated silhouette and is often paired with fitted or cropped pieces for balance.

The point of a longline cut is proportion: the added length draws a vertical line that visually lengthens the torso and legs. Longline blazers and cardigans layer well over slimmer pieces, while longline tops cover the hip for more coverage.

Because longline styles add length on top, they balance best with fitted bottoms — too much volume above and below at once can overwhelm the frame.
