Peacoat

A peacoat is a short, double-breasted coat in heavy wool, with broad lapels and large buttons, originally worn by sailors. Hip-length and warm, its structured, nautical look makes it a cold-weather staple.

The dense wool and double-breasted front make a peacoat genuinely warm, while the broad lapels can be turned up against wind. It's shorter than most overcoats, ending around the hip, which keeps it sharp rather than enveloping.

Where a trench is a lightweight, belted raincoat, a peacoat is a heavy, structured wool coat for real cold.
