Poplin

Poplin is a tightly woven plain-weave fabric with a smooth, crisp surface and a fine horizontal rib, most often made from cotton. Lightweight, breathable, and easy to press, it's the classic crisp shirting fabric, used for dress shirts, blouses, and shirtdresses where a clean, structured drape matters.

The tight plain weave gives poplin its smooth hand and slight sheen, and it takes a sharp press well, which is why it dominates formal and business shirting. It wrinkles more than synthetic blends but breathes far better.

Compared with the basketweave oxford cloth, poplin is finer, smoother, and dressier; both are staple shirting fabrics alongside twill.
