Chambray

Chambray is a lightweight plain-weave cotton with a coloured warp and white weft, giving it a soft, denim-like appearance without denim's weight or twill structure. It's softer and airier than denim, used for casual shirts and warm-weather pieces.

Chambray and denim look similar because both use a coloured (usually blue) warp against a white weft, but the weave is different: denim is a sturdy diagonal twill, while chambray is a lighter, flatter plain weave. That makes chambray far softer and more breathable.

It's the go-to for a denim look in warm weather — a chambray shirt has the colour of denim without the heat.
