Mango vs Bershka sizing: why does the same EU size fit so differently?

Updated June 10, 2026 · By the TRYSHOP team

Mango and Bershka are both Spanish, both label their clothes EU 34–44 with the same letters attached (38 is M at both, 40 is L), and that's where the resemblance ends. Mango is the most true-to-size of the Spanish high-street brands, cut for a slightly taller frame. Bershka is Inditex's youth label, cut for a young, slim body, with perhaps the strongest "size up" consensus on the high street.

The charts tell the story plainly: at EU 34–36 the two brands describe nearly the same body, then they split. By EU 40, Mango's L fits a 98 cm bust while Bershka's L fits 92–95 cm; by EU 44 the gap is a full ten centimetres of waist. Below is exactly where the charts diverge, the letter mapping that actually works, and how to handle Bershka's runs-small reputation on top of it.

The short answer

Bershka runs much smaller — a full size from M up, before its slim cut even kicks in

Same EU numbers, different bodies. Mango grades generously above S — each size step adds more room than the one below — while Bershka's chart climbs in small, even steps. The result: by bust measurement, a Mango M (92 cm · 36.2") matches Bershka's L (92–95 cm), a Mango L (98 cm · 38.6") matches Bershka's XL (96–99 cm), and Mango's XXL (110 cm) is beyond Bershka's chart entirely.

Then add fit behavior. Mango garments deliver their chart; Bershka's run small even against its own slim chart — reviewers routinely go up one size in fitted pieces and up to two in jeans, which run on their own separate numeric scale. Practically: coming from Mango, expect at least one letter up at Bershka from M onward, and more in denim. The one exception is Bershka's oversized hoodies and knits, which fit true to size.

Switching between Mango and Bershka

  • Ignore the matching EU labels from M upward: a Mango M body shops as a Bershka L, and a Mango L as a Bershka XL — before any fit adjustment.
  • In Bershka jeans, stack the adjustments: they run on their own numeric scale (EU 32–48), cut slim, and carry a size-up-two consensus. Check the denim chart specifically rather than converting from your Mango size.
  • Don't size up in Bershka's oversized hoodies and knits — that end of the range fits true to size or roomy, and going up defeats the cut.
  • Going Bershka → Mango: most people drop a letter from M up, and Mango's long sleeves and inseams will feel noticeably different from Bershka's youth proportions — check lengths if you're petite.

Measurements are based on each brand's published size charts and may vary by garment, fabric, and region. For the full charts and fit notes, see the Mango size guide and the Bershka size guide.

Mango vs Bershka sizing FAQs

Which runs smaller, Mango or Bershka?

Bershka, decisively — and twice over. Its chart describes a smaller body than Mango's at every size from EU 38 up (88–91 cm bust at M versus Mango's 92 cm), and its garments run small even against that chart, with shoppers routinely sizing up one to two. Mango is true to size.

Is a Mango M the same as a Bershka M?

No, despite both being labelled EU 38. Mango's M fits a 92 cm (36.2") bust and 72 cm waist; Bershka's M fits 88–91 cm and 68–71 cm. By body measurement, a Mango M matches Bershka's L — and for fitted Bershka pieces, many shoppers would go to XL.

Why do two Spanish brands with the same EU labels fit so differently?

Different target customers, different grading. Bershka is Inditex's youth brand, cut slim for a young frame with small, even size steps. Mango cuts for a slightly taller adult frame and widens its size steps above S, so its L and XL add room much faster than Bershka's.

How much should I size up in Bershka jeans coming from Mango?

Plan on two steps of adjustment. Bershka denim runs on its own numeric scale (EU 32–48) separate from the clothing chart, and it's where the brand's slim cut bites hardest — the standard advice is up to two sizes up. Check Bershka's denim-specific chart against your waist measurement rather than converting your Mango size.

What if I'm a Mango XL or XXL?

Bershka gets difficult. A Mango XL (104 cm · 40.9" bust) already sits above Bershka's XXL (100–103 cm), and a Mango XXL is beyond Bershka's published chart. Bershka's oversized styles may still work, but its fitted range simply isn't graded for those measurements.
