Chiffon

Chiffon is a sheer, very lightweight plain-weave fabric with a soft, slightly rough texture and a floaty, fluid drape. Made from silk, polyester, or nylon, its semi-transparency means it's usually layered or lined. Romantic and airy, it's a staple for eveningwear, flowing blouses, scarves, and dress overlays.

The fine, slightly crinkled weave gives chiffon its delicate, billowing movement, ideal for soft ruffles, layered skirts, and floaty sleeves. It's prone to snagging and fraying, so it's handled with care.

Chiffon adds airy, sheer volume where heavier silk or satin would feel structured, and frequently appears in tiered and occasion dresses.
